A group of countries affirmed that China's sovereignty should be respected, that outside interference in its internal affairs should be rejected, and that the human rights issue should not be politicized or used as a pretext for violating state sovereignty.

A joint statement issued by Pakistan on behalf of 68 countries during the current 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, excerpted by Xinhua, said: “The issues relating to Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Tibet are China’s internal affairs, and there should be no politicization of the matter.” human rights, double standards or interference in China’s internal affairs under the pretext of human rights.”

The statement added: "Respect for the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of states and non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states are two of the basic norms governing international relations."

The joint statement stressed the need for all parties to abide by the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, the principles of inclusiveness, impartiality, objectivity, non-selectivity and respect for the right of the people of each country to independently choose their own path of development, in accordance with their national conditions.

The statement stressed that all human rights should be treated with the same importance, with sufficient importance given to economic, social and cultural rights, and the right to development in particular.

The statement explained that humanity today faces multiple challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and the international community should support pluralism, strengthen solidarity and coordination, jointly respond to global challenges, support global peace and development, and promote and protect human rights.
