Ouagadougou-SANA
At least 10 people, mostly soldiers, were killed in a terrorist attack on a convoy of supplies for the population in northern Burkina Faso.
"A convoy of supplies for the population, escorted by a unit of the 14th regiment, was subjected to a terrorist attack on its way to Djibo near the town of Gaskende in the Somme province of the Sahel region, causing human and material damage," AFP quoted the Burkina Faso army as saying in a statement. A comprehensive tally will be published as soon as possible.
For his part, a security source told AFP that the temporary outcome of the attack is ten dead among the detachment members, in addition to many serious injuries, explaining that the census of victims of the attack is still ongoing, and reinforcements have been deployed in the area to provide assistance to the victims and secure the area.
It is noteworthy that these convoys, which are escorted by the army, provide supplies to cities in the north of the country that are besieged by terrorist groups.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso, like its neighbors Niger and Mali, has witnessed attacks attributed to armed organizations affiliated with al-Qaeda and ISIS, which have resulted in thousands of deaths and nearly two million displaced people.
