Joe Biden wants Americans to change their eating habits and is expected to decree at a food summit on Wednesday that it's time for the United States to end food insecurity while tackling the problem of obesity in the country.
The Democratic president will speak at the conference dubbed "
Hunger, nutrition and health
" organized at the White House, which will bring together government and association officials as well as academic experts seeking to promote a healthier America, according to a senior official.
According to the White House, the goal will be "
to end hunger and limit diet-related disease in the United States by 2030
".
"Health crisis"
An “
ambitious but achievable
” goal that will require presidential decrees but also congressional approval, according to this senior official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
"
The United States has still not eliminated hunger and is facing an urgent nutrition-related health crisis
" and this more than 50 years after a similar summit organized by Richard Nixon, detailed the White House.

The country deplores in particular an increase in the cases of food-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension and certain cancers.

The consequences of food insecurity and diet-related disease are serious and far-reaching, disproportionately affecting disadvantaged populations
," the executive said in a statement.
“
There is no magic recipe to overcome these complex problems
,” added the White House while noting that many of these diseases were preventable.
