A spokesman for the Lands Department said that in response to the urgent need to carry out the project, the department repossessed the Ma Tso Lung Chi Kee Wood Factory and two adjacent factories in Kwu Tung this morning, and handed it over to the Civil Engineering and Development Department to prepare for the commencement of the project.
Since the wood factory was full of debris, the government had to enclose it to prevent trespassing or accidents.
Part of the wood will be shipped to Y·PARK to be recycled into wooden furniture, etc.
The spokesman also pointed out that the Civil Engineering and Development Department and the Environmental Protection Department have started on-the-spot investigations on the quantity, type and condition of the remaining timber, and will transport the timber to be treated in batches to the garden waste recycling centre Y‧PARK [Forest] under the Environmental Protection Department. ‧District] Properly handle and recycle as much as possible into recycled materials such as planks and wooden squares, which can be used for facility decoration or made into upcycled products such as wooden furniture.
The Lands Department has informed the operator of the wood factory about the amount of the ex-gratia allowance for business operations, and the land owner of the wood factory is also eligible to receive compensation for land resumption.
For business operators affected by land resumption and demolition operations, the spokesman said that if they plan to relocate their businesses to other areas to continue their operations, the government will provide consulting services on planning and land matters, and coordinate with various departments to speed up the relevant approval procedures.
