China's Foreign Ministry on Monday criticized former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Taiwan, describing the latter as diminishing credibility.
"You mentioned a former politician with diminished credibility who carried out these stunts for personal political gain," Chinese media quoted ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin as saying at a press conference, adding that Pompeo's calculations would not be realized.
Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Taiwan yesterday and delivered a speech at the Taiwan Global Business Forum in Kaohsiung.
This is Mike Pompeo's second visit to Taiwan during 2022.
Tensions between China and Taiwan worsened after the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the island on the third of last month, despite Beijing's protests.
