For almost a year, a couple with Down syndrome have not been able to find a rented house in Milan, despite both having permanent jobs and being helped in their search by an association.

Paolo Sesana, 35, and Carlotta Sganga, 39, both with Down syndrome, will celebrate 4 years and 9 months of engagement on Saturday and their search, as told by Corriere della Sera, began over a year ago.

They explain that when homeowners hear the word "Down" they back down.

It is not a problem of money - explains the newspaper - they are both hired for an indefinite period.

The rent would be made payable to the organization that follows them, the Porta Romana Youth Cultural Club.

"Once the negotiations were going well. At the moment of delivering the deposit of 3,600 euros, they told us that we could no longer proceed. We returned home with the check in the bag and the morale down - says Renata Agosti, mother Carlotta's - Another time the owner of a house on the fourth floor told us: 'I can't risk them jumping out of the window' ".
