Erding – wasp against wasp spider: the wasp wanted to steal a fat meal from the spider web.
The woven bow tie would have been a nice bite for sure.
But the wasp had probably not counted on the bravery of the spider.
When the thief approached, the wasp spider jumped at lightning speed to the approaching predator, which then quickly fled.
Until about 50 years ago, the wasp spider was mainly found in southern Europe.
Presumably due to climate change, the species has greatly expanded its range and can now be found in almost all European countries.
Their diet consists of insects such as flies, bees, wasps, butterflies, dragonflies and grasshoppers.
Despite its size and deceptive name, the wasp spider is not dangerous to humans.
Their mouthparts usually cannot break through human skin.
