In the emergency shelters of the city of Stuttgart, the refugee situation continues to worsen.

Now a group of Ukrainians has protested against the miserable condition of a shelter.

In fact, there are significant shortcomings.

Stuttgart - According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, 992,517 war refugees came to Germany from Ukraine this year (as of September 17, 2022).

More than 7,600 people live in Stuttgart, some of whom are accommodated in private accommodation or municipal emergency shelters.

But the capacities in the state capital are slowly being exhausted and dissatisfaction with the current situation is increasing among Ukrainians, as BW24 reports.

Stuttgart: Ukraine refugees protest against cold showers and dirty sanitary facilities

A group of Ukraine refugees gathered in one of the side halls in the area of the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle and protested against what they considered to be unworthy accommodation, the

Stuttgarter Zeitung (StZ)

reports .

558 people are housed in the two side halls.

"The showers are cold, it's bad for the children, and the washing machines don't work," one refugee told

StZ

.

Local people also complain about dirty sanitary facilities.

The city of Stuttgart actually admits that there are some shortcomings in the emergency shelter.

The reason for this is also that there are procurement bottlenecks, as Marion Zorn, deputy head of the social welfare office, explained.

"Many administrations are currently looking for sleeping, kitchen and sanitary containers," she said.

The high wear and tear is to be compensated for with additional washing machines - but an additional container is also required for this.

Originally, the ancillary hall at the Schleyerhalle was not planned for such a long period of use, which is why little has been renewed.

Increase in the number of refugees further worsens the situation in Stuttgart's accommodation facilities

The situation in the emergency shelters is getting worse.

Conflicts are now common both with the security staff and among the refugees.

However, the situation is unlikely to ease in the coming months.

On the contrary: A forecast for September expects around 1,300 new refugees to arrive in Stuttgart.

The fact that Russian reservists are now also leaving their homeland was not even taken into account.

Baden-Württemberg's Migration Minister Marion Gentges (CDU) made it clear again to the "

Bild am Sonntag

" that living space and administrative staff are "meanwhile largely exhausted".

However, the state capital Stuttgart announced a few weeks ago that two container villages would create more capacity.

After the Cannstatter Volksfest, 440 seats are to be made available on the Wasen.

A container village with 160 places will be built on the Waldau in autumn.

In addition, Stuttgart rented two former hotels (1,100 places in total) and a boarding house (556 places).

"We have our backs to the wall, we have to grasp at every straw," emphasized Mayor Frank Nopper (CDU) at the time.
