There was an explosion on the market square in Halle an der Saale.
Two youths were seriously injured.
Halle – Terrible incident in Halle an der Saale: in the city center in Saxony-Anhalt there was an explosion on Tuesday evening, leaving two seriously injured young people.
It happened around 6 p.m. in the public toilets in the Marktschlösschen on the market square, three people were injured in total, a police spokesman said on Tuesday evening.
A 12- and a 13-year-old were particularly hard hit.
The teenagers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
A 51-year-old woman was slightly injured.
"The cause is currently still completely unclear," said the spokesman.
Origin of the explosion in the listed "Marktschlösschen"
The tourist information office of Stadtmarketing Halle GmbH is located in the Marktschlösschen.
The castle is a patrician house from the late Renaissance.
There is also a chocolate bar in it, which is run by the company Halloren AG.
The building has been a listed building since 1935.
According to the police, the square was cordoned off within a radius of 100 meters, and there are no trams running across the market.
Residents around the site of the explosion were evacuated from their homes.
Halle has set up a contact point for residents and those affected who should come together in the council courtyard.
