– The association of the Hodschager Moosburg celebrated their home meeting with a big program on Sunday after a two-year forced break.

The community proudly lived out its culture for a day and, with Head of State Chancellery Florian Herrmann, was also able to win over a prominent guest for the commemorative speech.

In it, Herrmann stated with horror that mankind had learned nothing from history.

The head of the state chancellery recalled 1944, when the city of Hodschag in today's Serbia had become notorious.

In the final months of World War II, 183 people were killed in a massacre.

And this story reminds the politician of the current images from the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.

"We thought this story was over," said Florian Herrmann, "but now parts of this story are repeating themselves." The minister repeatedly drew a line between the past and current events in Russia and Ukraine.

"Your story shows us the consequences of decisions like Putin's war of aggression will have." Specifically, he made it clear that even after the end of the war it would take a long time for the wounds in people's souls to heal.

"It will be decades before people can shake hands in reconciliation instead of holding them in defense." His conclusion sounded sad: "It's not enough that the story happened once."

The Minister of State also devoted himself to the Moosburg Hodschager story.

The city decided on the partnership almost 50 years ago – in certainly not easy times.

"There must have been some discussions at the time," explained Florian Herrmann.

He praised the fact that there were courageous politicians in Moosburg who made important decisions.

He called out to the Hodschagers at the home meeting, "You and your ancestors have contributed to Moosburg being the way it is today".

This year's meeting was also a very special day for Annemarie Förster.

For the first time, the chairwoman of the Moosburg Hodschager Association headed the Heimattag and moderated the program with ease.

Beforehand there had been a parade with various associations, a service in the Kastulusmünster and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hodschager memorial.

The colorful festival in the House of Clubs on Hoschager Straße was finally framed by the Transylvanian brass band from Landshut.
