This winter, more tennis can be played in the Würmtal than expected.

Two air domes have been in place since the weekend.

The operators weighed carefully.

– Of course, tennis is also played in the Würmtal in winter.

Or not?

The energy crisis has mixed things up.

The Planegg-Krailling (SVP) sports club decided in July not to build its natural gas-heated tennis hall this year.

The chairman of TC Blau-Weiß Gräfelfing, the tennis department of TSV Gräfelfing, Hans Schumacher, immediately followed this example.

He is convinced that the club has a role model function, especially since TSV Gräfelfing lives on community subsidies.

In addition, the operation is uneconomical this year due to the increased energy prices (we reported).

While Blue and White plans to build all-weather courts, members don't have to give up tennis.

At the neighboring TC Grün-Weiß Gräfelfing, the board of directors has now spoken out in favor of using its air dome.

It was set up last Sunday.

Members of other clubs like Blue and White are allowed to use the hall.

The TC Grün-Weiß is not the only one swimming against the tide.

The tennis department of TV Stockdorf also set up their hall on Saturday.

Since playing tennis in winter is not a matter of course this year, the President of the TC Grün-Weiß, Sven Maier, justifies the decision in a letter to the members.

After two consecutive winter seasons, some of which were significantly affected by the infection process, it became clear “that lack of exercise and sitting around at home – not surprisingly – didn’t really do our children or ourselves any good”.

Body and mood would have suffered.

The board of directors came to the conclusion: "That sport is a good thing in our society that we shouldn't sacrifice at the first economic and political resistance."

Maier puts the cost of the gas consumed by the hall last year at around 18,000 euros.

Currently, these would have doubled.

They could still triple.

However, the club cannot go any further.

"If necessary, we have to stop the game," he says.

The members have been able to enjoy the hall since Monday, and the seven trainers who work in the TC Grün-Weiß in winter do not have to forego their livelihood.

The fact that energy prices have risen drastically affects green and white less than the neighboring clubs, says Maier.

The hall of the TC Blau-Weiß is eight years old.

The air dome of the TC Grün-Weiß is about three years old.

"Unlike many air domes in our area, it represents the latest state of the art in terms of energy with its modern, free-floating triple membrane construction with heat-insulating air chambers.

It uses a fraction of the amount of gas in an air dome built using the old steel wire support system.” Despite this, the temperatures in the hall will be lower than in previous years.

The gas for the hall of the TC Grün-Weiß cost 18,000 euros last year

The Stockdorfer model is the same as that in Gräfelfing, explains the local chairman Rainer Weber.

Only the one from 2020. "We are aware that we have to be careful with the gas for economic and ecological reasons," he says.

It may therefore be colder than usual in this hall this year.

"We're trying to use 20 percent less gas than last year."

The two clubs are trying to make everything possible for friends of tennis.

Now only the legislature can put a spanner in the works.

Schumacher would then have been right.

Because he believes: "It will be banned anyway."
