After more than a week of Oktoberfest, increasing numbers of infections can be seen in Munich.

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach criticizes the protection concept at the Wiesn.

Berlin – Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach commented on the increasing number of corona in Bavaria via Twitter.

With regard to the Oktoberfest, the SPD politician said: “The Oktoberfest would have been safer with tests before admission and no less beautiful.

At the prices per measure, the tests would have been affordable.

Now more severe courses and

#LongCovid

cases will have to be treated as a result.”

Corona numbers in Munich: increase in infection as a result of the Oktoberfest

One and a half weeks after the start of the Oktoberfest, infections with the corona virus are increasing faster and faster.

On a weekly basis, the incidence rose by almost 77 percent to 424.9, according to figures from the Robert Koch Institute on Tuesday (September 27).

That is significantly more than the Bavaria-wide increase of 43.1 percent or the German increase of 29.4 percent.

The incidence is the number of new corona infections recorded per 100,000 people within seven days.

Since the health authorities report practically no new cases to the RKI on weekends, which the RKI can include in the figures for the next morning, Tuesday is usually the first day of the week on which there are significant increases in the incidences.

Corona numbers in Munich: an increase in infections was to be expected

A connection between the increase and the Oktoberfest can hardly be proven at the moment, but it is obvious: there was also a significant increase in the incidences at other folk festivals around a week and a half after the start.

Often these were then increased for a good week.

Experts had also predicted a Wiesn wave in the run-up to the Oktoberfest.

The infectiologist and pandemic officer of the University Hospital Rechts der Isar of the TU Munich, Christoph Spinner, looked forward to the Oktoberfest before the start without any major corona concerns.

The researcher anticipated an increase in corona infections.

However, he did not predict that hospitals would be overwhelmed.

In addition, Spinner warned people from high-risk groups against visiting and advised vaccination against the corona virus.
