The reasons why Hurricane Ian causes so much concern 0:57
(CNN) --
The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol has postponed its hearing scheduled for Wednesday as Hurricane Ian heads toward Florida.
The panel had originally scheduled a hearing for Wednesday to reveal new information it has uncovered since its last hearing on July 21, but the committee's chair, Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, and vice chair, Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Where and when is Hurricane Ian going to make landfall in Florida?
"As Hurricane Ian looms over parts of Florida, we have decided to postpone tomorrow's proceedings," Thompson and Cheney said in a joint statement.
"We pray for the safety of all those in the path of the storm. The select committee investigation is continuing and we will announce a date for deferred proceedings soon."
One of the commission's nine members, Democratic Rep. Stephanie Murphy, represents a district that includes parts of Orlando.
CNN previously reported that Murphy may not be able to attend Wednesday's hearing.
