Looking through the information, Lin Dingyi graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong in 2002, a few years later than her classmates in the same period. It is reported that she had dropped out of school.

At least two medical sources say she is the eldest daughter of Lin Zhaoxin, the former dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong.

The "120 YEARS OF ACHIEVEMENTS" published by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong in 2007 also published the story of two fathers and daughters, both of whom were enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong and graduated in 1967 and 2002 respectively. Lin Zhaoxin is an international authority in gastroenterology, but from 2003 to 2006, he performed endoscopy for private patients in Queen Mary Hospital, misleading 12 patients to deposit a total of 130,000 yuan of consultation fees into his private company Gastrointestinal Research (referred to as GR) bank account.

According to the regulations of the University and the HA, clinical staff are required to pay three-quarters of the private disease consultation fee to the University, and the remaining amount goes to the HA.

The incident was revealed in July 2006. At that time, Lin Zhaoxin's patient Guo Shikai had paid him a consultation fee of 9,500 yuan, but he still received a bill from the hospital for an endoscopy fee of 250 yuan, so he made an inquiry to the Hospital Authority and revealed the incident. .

Lin Zhaoxin pleaded guilty on September 1, 2009, and was sentenced to 25 months in prison.
