Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stressed that Russia has the right to use nuclear weapons if necessary, while strictly adhering to the basics of state policy in the field of nuclear deterrence.
Sputnik quoted Medvedev as saying on his Telegram channel today: “Russia will use nuclear weapons if it, or its allies, are attacked with these weapons, or if its existence is threatened,” stressing that it “will do everything in its power to prevent the emergence of nuclear weapons among its hostile neighbors, for example. The example is in Nazi Ukraine, which is directly controlled by NATO countries today.”
Medvedev added: “It seems pointless to rely on the reason and political will of the Kyiv regime, but there is still a fragile hope for common sense and a sense of self-preservation in the hostile countries. From anyone and without long consultations, and this is certainly not nonsense.”
Medvedev pointed out that "if Russia is forced to use the most powerful weapon against Kyiv, NATO will not directly intervene in the conflict, because the security of Washington, London and Brussels is much more important to NATO than the fate of the moribund Ukraine, which no one needs, even if it is equipped with different weapons." He added, "The supply of modern weapons is just a trade for Western countries mixed with intense hatred towards us."
