After a long wait, the time has come: the renaturation of the banks of the Grüner Wasserl has begun.

It was a condition for the already completed construction of the grit hall on the commercial area there.

Kreuth

– Since the spring of 2020, the Splitthalle has been at the Grünen Wasserl, very close to the Ringsee.

After approval, which was accompanied by loud public protest, it was built.

Then it got quiet.

Too quiet for those worried valley citizens who have since asked themselves the question: when will the announced renaturation of the bank areas on the so-called "Grea Wasserl" begin.

And when will the hall finally fulfill its purpose, namely the storage of chippings from the neighboring gravel works?

When asked at the Miesbach district office, surprising information was added these days: the renaturation measure on the "Grea Wasserl" had begun.

"We expect the work to be completed by the end of September," said district office spokeswoman Sophie Stadler.

And Georg Dießl, father of the property owner Elisabeth Dießl, also confirms that the work has started.

Renaturation at the green water has begun

It is about the renaturation of an area on the edge of the approximately 6900 square meter area that is sensitive from a nature conservation point of view.

In 2015, the owners made the first attempt to build a new 23 by 14 meter warehouse.

However, the application, combined with the relocation of the access road to the gravel works at Ringsee, was rejected "because of the sensitive location of the building site in terms of ecology and landscape protection".

In 2018, the district office took a U-turn, granted approval and announced that the biotope would be upgraded and enlarged fivefold.

The renaturation was supposed to start at the end of 2020, but a spectacular find stopped the work: a war helmet and metal sleeves from the Second World War were found at the edge of the water.

Soil protection reports and a statement from the water management office were obtained.

According to the result, further “contamination” is not to be expected.

So now it comes to the announced renaturation.

According to the district office, two trees affected by ash dieback have already been felled for safety reasons.

The district office emphasizes that it has always dealt intensively with the "Grea Wasserl" case and refers to various on-site appointments, most recently in August, with the lower nature conservation authority.

Details on the design of the renaturation area were discussed and defined on site.

"The plans and the area balance have not changed fundamentally," emphasizes the spokeswoman.

"The renaturation goal is still the creation of a near-natural, very wet biotope situation with individual water areas and local, native riparian vegetation." Nevertheless, there was still a need for coordination, it is said.

In order to continue to allow access to the gravel works with large trucks and to be able to meet the specifications of the Rosenheim State Building Authority for maintenance measures on a drainage ditch on the federal road, minor adjustments to the routing and the precise design of the biotope were necessary.

The Lower Nature Conservation Authority will continue to support the implementation of the measures and will carry out an acceptance test at the end of the measure.

Green water: when will the grit hall be filled?

When asked why the grit hall has not yet been filled, Stadler says: "We don't have to determine any needs, we only have to check the submitted documents for approval.

Our last status is still the use as a grit hall.” Only the Dießl family can answer this question.

"As long as everything was going well, the hall could not be filled," says Georg Dießl.

He assumes that will happen.

When exactly, he cannot say.

The fact that the renaturation of the shore has now begun is "but also good news".
