Thousands of liters of oil escaped from a leak in Lower Bavaria.

They ended up in the ground and partly in a creek.

The extent of the damage is still unclear.

Plattling – A major oil accident occurred in the Lower Bavarian district of Deggendorf.

On the carcass disposal site in Plattling, thousands of liters of oil leaked into the ground and partly into the nearby stream.

The extent of the resulting damage is still unclear.

30,000 to 50,000 liters of oil leaked in Bavaria: the extent of the damage is still unclear

According to Karl-Heinz Kellermann, head of the association for the disposal of animal carcasses and slaughterhouse waste in Plattling, the following boreholes should now help to assess the extent of the damage underground.

"We hope to be able to narrow down the area by next week," said Kellermann on Tuesday, September 27th.

According to Kellermann, there had been a leak in the oil line between the tank and the factory last week.

The first rough estimate was that between 30,000 and 50,000 liters of oil escaped.

However, the exact amount is still unknown.

After the leak was noticed, the line was shut down and switched to gas, says Kellermann.

Bach and especially Boden affected: first steps to limit the damage

According to a spokesman for the Deggendorf district office, most of the oil seeped into the ground, but some also got into a nearby stream.

According to Kellermann, oil booms were installed immediately and parts of the oil were sucked out.

According to the district office spokesman, the spread in the Mühlbach could be contained in this way.

There were no dead fish, and streaks of oil were still visible in isolated cases.

In the next steps, a specialist company will present a renovation concept and the floor will also be replaced in the further course.

How much the whole thing will cost is still unclear at this point in time.
