The Center for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (27th) that an Indonesian lo mein "Xida Korean Spicy Chicken Flavor" distributed by Parknshop was found to contain the carcinogenic pesticide ethylene oxide.
The CFS urges the trade to stop using or selling the affected batches of products immediately, and the public should also stop consuming them.

Noodles, seasonings and chili powder samples contain pesticides
The CFS stated that after taking samples from a supermarket in Lok Fu for testing under the "CFS' Routine Food Surveillance Programme", it was found that the noodles, seasonings and chili powder samples of the products contained the pesticide ethylene oxide. .
The center has known the merchants involved and requested that the affected batches of products be discontinued and removed from the shelves.
The retailer concerned has recalled the relevant products in accordance with the CFS's instructions. Members of the public may call its hotline (2606 8658) during office hours to inquire about the recall of the relevant products.
Carcinogens were detected in the "Xida Korean-style spicy chicken-flavored noodles" sold at ParknShop Supermarket.

Ethylene oxide has been classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer
The Center for Food Safety also pointed out that the International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified ethylene oxide as the first group of carcinogens.
According to the Pesticide Residues in Food Regulation (Cap. 132CM), no person shall sell food containing pesticide residues that are hazardous or detrimental to health for public consumption.
Offenders can be fined up to $50,000 and jailed for six months.
The CFS also appealed to the trade to stop using or selling the affected batches of products immediately, and the public to stop consuming them.
The CFS will notify the industry of the incident and will continue to follow up and take appropriate actions. The investigation is still ongoing.
