The Assistant Minister of Social Affairs and Labor for Labor Affairs, Muhammad Firas Nabhan, discussed today with the Director of the Regional Office of the International Labor Organization Ruba Al-Jaradat, cooperation in the field of resuming the activities of the International Labor Organization in Syria.

The meeting included a discussion of a number of issues related to the resumption of the ILO’s activity in Syria, and an agreement to expand the plan to open a project office in Damascus, resume the organization’s work in Syria, and build the capacity of workers in the social protection and social security system.

Nabhan pointed out the importance of the organization's support for Syria, especially at this stage, in order to meet the requirements of recovery in the labor sector in general, and achieve more disciplined flexibility to protect workers' rights.

In turn, Jaradat drew attention to the importance of accelerating the opening of a representative office for the organization in the Syrian capital, Damascus, in coordination with the organization’s administration in Geneva, stressing the organization’s desire to resume technical cooperation and work in Syria to achieve more integration of technical expertise in the International Labor Organization with the activities related to the labor market and the labor sector that are being implemented With partner UN agencies, in preparation for the start of preparing the ground for the resumption of their activities in Syria.

Nabhan also held a meeting with the official of the Social Security Department in the organization, Luca Berliano, and cooperation was discussed in three main areas, which are the possibility of supporting the General Organization for Social Insurance by developing software techniques that regulate its work and providing technical and technical support in the field of developing labor legislation, especially the law regulating the work of the General Organization for Social Insurance, as it is within the framework of Currently developing and technical support for the Corporation to conduct a study on its financial position in order to ensure more effective management of its investments and to achieve sustainability with the Corporation's resources.

Yesterday, the ILO regional office held a qualitative training workshop for social security inspectors in Beirut with the participation of Syria. The training program includes focusing on axes related to the subject of social security inspection, with the participation of a group of social security institutions inspectors for a number of countries, including Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and the Sultanate of Oman.
