Tension on Rosh Hashanah in Jerusalem: the police continue to secure the holy places in the capital.

Masked people desecrated a mosque on the Temple Mount this morning (Tuesday) and Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai came to tour the city.

The visits of tourists and Jews continued as normal and there were no unusual disturbances.

At the same time, a number of masked youths were identified inside the mosque who chanted incitement and tried to cause provocation on the spot.

At some point they also desecrated the mosque, by banging hard with various objects on the mosque doors for no reason, and at some point they even played football at the entrance to the mosque and disturbed mainly Muslim worshipers entering the mosque during the last hours.

One of those masked suspects (18, a resident of East Jerusalem) who was suspected of shouting incitement, was arrested for questioning in the David area of the Jerusalem district.

In addition, this morning a report was received at the police center about a video that was broadcast live on the "TikTok" network and in it suspected incitement.

In a short time, the police arrested a suspect in the act (in his forties, a resident of the center) and he was taken to the police for questioning.

In the meantime, Police Commissioner R.N.T. Yaakov Shabtai arrived in the Old City this morning, met with commanders and acting police officers in the area, and received an overview of the increased preparation and deployment of forces in the area from Jerusalem District Commander Superintendent Doron Turgeman.

Police Commissioner Shabtai said: "We are at the peak of police activity and increased activity of Israel Police officers and soldiers all over the country, including in Jerusalem and the Old City sector to allow Israeli citizens to celebrate Rosh Hashanah safely.

The high alert that the Israel Police is on will continue during all the Tishrei holidays when, alongside the activity of the forces on all levels, the public is asked to continue to be vigilant and report anything unusual to us.

So far the events in Jerusalem have been contained and are under control by the many forces of the police and MGB and we are prepared for any scenario.'
