The Ickinger Gymnasium celebrates its 100th birthday - with a prominent visitor.

The view fell on the long history and the future of the school.

Icking - One year late, "das Ickinger" celebrated its 100th birthday - and in a big way.

The milestone birthday was celebrated with a three-hour ceremony, followed by a lively get-together of the school family and their visitors.

The celebration of the Rainer-Maria-Rilke Gymnasium last year only took place on a small scale due to the corona pandemic.

Ten speeches, relaxing music and dance interludes, which represented a journey through the last century as well as many speeches: The program in the gym was extensive.

A bit of politics was thrown in too.

District administrator Josef Niedermaier (free voters) asked in his welcoming speech "how much the Icking location can still tolerate".

By the year 2026, one must reckon with 100 more students - a total of 900.

There is currently no room for them in the existing classrooms, as headmaster Stefan Nirschl explained.

Former student Prof. Peter Raue tells: “My life was here”

The most humorous speech of the morning came from Prof. Peter Raue.

The lawyer and art patron graduated from high school in Icking in 1961 – and before that he did a lap of honor in fifth grade.

"My life was here," he said in the gym, which even existed when he was at school.

He spent "incredibly beautiful years" at school and around it.

In summer, for example, secretly smoking at the reservoir, in winter shivering in the barracks.

It was so cold in them that you couldn't even write exes in them.

His favorite teacher Hertha Klepl taught him and the others to love Hemingway and rehearsed with them for a performance of "Sleeping Beauty".

Recognition of the Gymnasium: Not possible without parenthood

Even at the smaller celebration last year, many protagonists recalled the early years of the school.

At that time, 22 boys and girls were taught in the next room of a country inn in Icking, where a hen or a cat would drop by.

Host Nirschl recalled this again in his speech.

In a time of cultural upheaval and social upheaval, school founder Alfred Vogel showed "great courage and great determination".

Many committed parents went with him on the "rocky road" to official recognition as a secondary school.

Even today, this commitment of parents would characterize the school.

"We have every reason to be optimistic about the next 100 years," said Nirschl.

Take the “spirit of optimism and the creative will” of the early years with you.
