Damage to the overhead line at Munich Ostbahnhof paralyzed the main route for hours.

The federal police diverted Wiesn drivers home via the main train station.

Munich – After visiting the Wiesn, most visitors only want one thing: to get home as quickly as possible.

In particular, the cold, damp weather inspires the steps of the mostly exhausted homebound drivers.

Oktoberfest 2022: S-Bahn main line closed for hours

On Monday, September 26th, some Wiesn returnees had to be patient at Ostbahnhof and Hackerbrücke.

At around 11 p.m., a suspension cable from the overhead line at Munich’s Ostbahnhof tore off and fell onto an S-Bahn train running underneath.

The S6 line was traveling in the direction of Grafing when it had to stop just before the station.

According to the Munich police, the demolition of the overhead line on the S-Bahn caused fire and smoldering damage.

None of the 400 passengers were injured.

An initial damage assessment was carried out on site, after which the train could be pulled by another S-Bahn to the platform.

There, the passengers were able to leave the train unharmed.

Due to the incident, the main route had to be completely closed to S-Bahn traffic at times.

An external influence could not be determined.

Wiesn visitors hold out at Hackerbrücke: federal police divert travelers

Numerous Oktoberfest returnees at the Hackerbrücke were also affected by the train failure.

Federal police forces finally led the Oktoberfest visitors on foot to the main train station, where they could continue their journey home by subway or regional transport.

Repairing the damage lasted until the next morning.

The route was only completely passable again around seven o'clock.

In general, the discipline for wearing a mask in Munich public transport decreases significantly during the Wiesn period.

This is also shown by the snapshot of a visibly battered Wiesn home driver.
