Fearing the rise in energy prices, a man from Upper Bavaria heated his apartment with a charcoal grill.

Poisoning was the result.

Mühldorf am Inn – In addition to the Ukraine war, the topic of the last few weeks is also closely related: the energy crisis.

Above all, the growing energy crisis is worrying people.

Fearing horrendous energy bills, a man in Mühldorf am Inn decided to use his charcoal grill in his apartment for heating.

Charcoal grill as heating in the apartment: Two people in the hospital

According to a police press release, a 50-year-old man called 911 on Sunday morning, September 21.

He shared that he had just driven his wife to the hospital - she had a headache and was dizzy.

When he returned home, his nephew was lying unconscious in the apartment.

When the emergency services entered the caller's home, the emergency services' CO warning device sounded the alarm.

The helpers therefore quickly knew that the unconscious man was probably the victim of carbon monoxide poisoning.

In no time at all, the 50-year-old's 34-year-old nephew was taken to the hospital.

Heating with a charcoal grill: Not a smart alternative

The 50-year-old caller himself was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The fire brigade's helpers then checked the apartment.

With their measuring devices, they determined a high CO concentration.

It was eliminated by extensive ventilation, according to the police report.

The reason for the CO pollution in the apartment was a charcoal grill.

The fire department found him in the living room of the apartment.

It was also operated there and was therefore responsible for the toxic gases.

The homeowner later admitted to the police that he actually used the charcoal grill "for heating because the electricity bill was so expensive."

The 50-year-old is now being investigated for negligent bodily harm.

Fortunately, both victims are not in critical condition.

Finally, the police warn against using charcoal or gas grills in closed rooms - poisonous gases such as odorless and invisible carbon monoxide are produced within a very short time, which can quickly become life-threatening for people.
