The Nevada Department of Corrections is searching for an inmate serving life in prison for a 2007 Las Vegas murder who has escaped from a state prison.
The South Desert prison in Indian Springs did not discover that Porfirio Duarte-Herrera, a 42-year-old man born in Nicaragua, had escaped during the count carried out at 7 a.m. Tuesday, according to reports.

Search teams deployed an operation to locate Duarte-Herrera, described as "a medium-security inmate."
Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak said in a statement to Las Vegas station KSNV, an NBC News affiliate, that he learned Tuesday that the inmate had not been seen since "early in the weekend."
"This is unacceptable," Sisolak said, "this type of security breach cannot be allowed, those responsible will be held accountable."

Duarte-Herrera, who was serving a life sentence for murder, was transferred to the Department of Corrections in February 2010 from Clark County.
He and Omar Rueda-Denvers were convicted of planting a bomb that killed

Prosecutors then said the motive was revenge against Antonio, 24, who was in a relationship with Rueda-Denvers' ex-girlfriend.
Rueda-Denvers, 47, remains incarcerated at another state prison, according to Department of Corrections records.
