An Avianca plane bound for London makes an emergency landing on an island in the middle of the Atlantic

A plane that covered the Bogotá-London route made an emergency landing on Tuesday on an island in the middle of the Atlantic.

The aircraft, in which 240 people and 11 crew members were traveling, was diverted to the Lajes International Airport, located on Terceira Island (Portugal) after presenting a technical failure.

The Boeing 787 of the Avianca airline managed to land successfully at 13:44 (7:44 Colombian time).

The passengers believe that it was a serious fault, according to comments they have made on social networks.

For its part, Avianca indicated that the passengers will be transferred at dawn on a charter flight to Gatwick Airport, in the city of London.

“Assistance at the alternate airport will be delivered through a provider while part of Avianca's own team is transferred from Madrid.

The time is to be confirmed depending on the landing approvals of the authorities in said country”, can be read in a statement from the airline.

However, the complaints of the passengers of the plane flood the social networks in search of answers about what happened and the treatment they have received after hours of waiting.
