The Sixth Suwayda Theater Festival continued its activities for the fifth day by holding an intellectual symposium on the manifestations of contemporary theater, and a theatrical show entitled “Made in Hell No. 2” written and directed by Omar Abu Saad.

During the symposium hosted by the Culture Palace lecture hall, the head of the branch of the Arab Writers Union in Suwayda, Wijdan Abu Mahmoud, spoke about the drama of the literary text in all its genres, including novel, story and others by adapting the narrative text and transforming it into a theatrical work, reviewing a number of playwrights who were inspired by literary texts.

A member of the Writers Union branch office, Farhan Al-Khatib, reviewed the beginnings of theater since ancient times, the emergence of the Syrian theater at the hands of "Abu Al-Khalil Al-Qabbani" and how the theatrical movement developed, and took its civilized form, and the intellectual trends that emerged during that, and the most important of its writers and playwrights with interest in children's theater, especially during the years the war.

A member of the Federation branch office, Dr. Fayez Ezzedine, referred to the impact of the theater and the emergence of the political theater adopted by Saadallah Wannous, which was not a theater for clowning or unloading, but rather for mobilization, giving human impetus its vitality so that man can arrange his present with the prospects of his future.

As for the show “Made in Hell No. 2”, hosted by the theater of the Palace of Culture and played by the two actresses, Taj Naim and Venus Al-Ghawish, it tells the story of two girls who were displaced, the first due to war conditions, and the other due to social customs and traditions, and they met in a random housing, and began to discover the dangers of life, and its corridors, and exposing themselves in front of each other from the inside until they concluded that in this circumstance nothing is useful, and that we need to re-evaluate ourselves, history, and reality in order to start again, as the director of work explained to SANA’s cultural reporter.

The presentation was followed by a critical discussion seminar about it, during which some participants indicated that the work presents an empirical case for a problematic, realistic topic, crowded with old and modern issues inherited from the crisis, and it has many implications.

Some of it is clear, and some of it is vague, and it was characterized by a high effort in acting.

The festival, organized by the Directorate of Theaters and Music, the National Theater Department in Sweida, and the Directorate of Culture in the governorate, started last Saturday and ends next Friday.
