For many years there have been concrete plans to build a facility for assisted living next to the Kraillinger Caritas old people's home.

Now the major project has died: the client is getting out.

Krailling

– The extension of the Maria Eich retirement home to include a new building for assisted living with 38 apartments has been one of the most controversial construction projects in Krailling for years.

Now it's on hold for an indefinite period of time.

The board of directors of the Schober Foundation has decided to withdraw as the client.

"It took us all by surprise.

From our point of view, we had done everything that needed to be done," explained Mayor Rudolph Haux in an interview with our newspaper.

The urban planning contract with the foundation was about to be concluded.

This should finance the new building, the Caritas rent and operate the house.

groundbreaking in the distant future

Seven years after the decision to draw up the development plan, there are still too many imponderables, said Ute Richter, chairwoman of the Schober Foundation and municipal councillor, on request.

It was not possible to tell the board of trustees when the ground-breaking ceremony would finally take place.

After five interpretations, no statutory resolution has yet been passed for the development plan.

For this, the urban development contract would have to be in place, which lawyers from the municipality and foundation have been negotiating until the very end.

The Starnberg environmental and district committee and district council would also have to deal with the removal of 5,000 square meters of protective forest from the landscape protection area, which is necessary for the construction project.

"It was no longer possible to foresee how this would continue over time," says Eleonore Zwißler, member of the Board of Trustees and long-standing chairwoman.

Massive resistance to deforestation

There had been massive resistance from nature conservation organizations and the Greens against the clearing of 5,000 square meters of protected forest.

Günther Schorn, chairman of the Bund Naturschutz in the district of Starnberg, emphasized in a letter that the area intended for the development was "by no means a worthless spruce plantation", rather it was a young mixed forest rich in oaks.

The area is important for species protection.

As reported, the strictly protected dormouse was detected there.

In order to resettle them, tubes, so-called nest tubes, have already been hung up in the forest conversion zone.

Community needs to reinvent itself

Even after the failure of the Schober Foundation, the community wants to continue building the residential complex south of the retirement home, especially as a lot of money has already been invested in the project.

"We have to reposition ourselves now," said Mayor Haux.

Areas and compensation areas would still be available.

The market will be explored and potential investors and builders will be on the lookout.

At the same time, talks will also be held with Caritas.

Numerous synergy effects

The latter was recently very interested in the construction project.

A close connection between assisted living and the nursing home promises numerous synergy effects.

In this way, residents of assisted living could participate in the social offers, catering and domestic services of the old people's home.

Last but not least, the intention was to temporarily accommodate the residents of the retirement home, which urgently needs to be renovated, in the new building during the construction work.
