NEW - In the year of the 50th anniversary of its sports division, the Munich firm is launching an unprecedented plug-in hybrid SUV that will not exist in its standard product line.

Since the M1 officially presented in a road version at the 1978 Paris Motor Show, this is the first time that BMW Motorsport, the sports division of the Bavarian manufacturer, has presented a model that does not derive from a commercial series.

Like the M1 in its time, the XM - for X Motorsport - launched on the markets in the spring of 2023 will have its own existence.

Taking its registration number from the Citroën grand tourer of the late 1980s, this new SUV will be talked about with its design which exacerbates the latest aesthetic codes of the Munich firm.

Around a length of 5.11 m, a width of 2 m and a height of 1.75 m, this large SUV is distinguished by rough cut lines, an enlarged grille, a marked shoulder and a huge rear diffuser framing two superimposed double exhaust nozzles.

A nod to the M1, this XM incorporates BMW logos engraved in the rear window.

Also under the hood, this SUV stands out with a 4.4-litre plug-in hybrid V8.

Extensively overhauled, this turbocharged block has a power of 489 hp and a torque of 650 Nm. With the addition of a 197 hp electric motor integrated into the 8-speed M automatic gearbox, the cumulative power comes out at 653 horsepower and the torque at 800 Nm. The electric machine is powered by a 25.7 kWh battery providing an electric range of up to 88 km.

Results:

In autumn 2023, a Label Red version will be available from the XM.

Its power will display 748 hp, bringing that of the V8 to 585 hp.

The maximum torque will be able to reach 1000 Nm.

Inside too, the XM shows exclusivity with a particular treatment, in particular for the upper part of the dashboard and the door panels trimmed in vintage-looking leather.

In line with its dynamic silhouette, Motorsport engineers have installed an M Sport differential, an Adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers and active anti-roll system.

Sporty, this SUV M is certainly sporty with a worked sound and performance belonging to the world of GTs.

It reaches 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.

At 175,000 euros, its price also reaches new heights.
