Brazil's impressive finish to its World Cup build-up was overshadowed by racial slurs when a fan threw a banana at striker Richarlison during a 5-1 win over Tunisia in Paris on Tuesday.

The Tottenham Hotspur star scored Brazil's second goal but while celebrating he was thrown a banana among other objects.

His teammate Fred was then seen kicking the banana off the field.

After the game, Richarlison posted on Twitter: “As long as they keep 'blah blah blah' and don't punish, it'll keep it up, every day and everywhere.

No time brother!

#racismonao [racism no]”.

The Brazilian football federation (CBF) issued a statement condemning the perpetrator's actions and called for stronger action against racism.

"Unfortunately, a banana was thrown on the pitch towards Richarlison, author of the second Brazilian goal," read a statement from the CBF on Twitter.

"The CBF reinforces its position against racism and repudiates any manifestation of prejudice."

Richarlison's goal put Brazil back in the lead after Tunisia equalised.

CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues later added: “This time I saw it with my own eyes.

This shocks us.

We must always remember that we are all the same, regardless of color, race or religion.

“The fight against racism is not a cause, but a fundamental change to sweep this type of crime from the planet.

I insist on saying that the punishments should be more severe”.

CNN Senior Sports Analyst Darren Lewis tweeted: “Soccer has always known that racism is tackled by deducting points and removing clubs/countries from competitions.

Zero tolerance.

“Until then, the players must walk.

Surely one day they will realize their commercial power and take action across the board.”

Before kick-off, the Brazilian players posed in front of a banner that read: "Without our black players, we wouldn't have any stars on the jersey."

The stars refer to the record five World Cup titles that Brazil has won.

The players made the statement in response to the racist insults that Brazilian striker Vinicius Jr. suffered from Atlético de Madrid fans in the Madrid derby.

The Real Madrid star was subjected to insulting chants, including monkey sounds, before and throughout the match.

"They say happiness is annoying," Vinicius said of his experience.

“The happiness of a victorious black Brazilian in Europe bothers much more.

“But my desire to win, my smile and the sparkle in my eyes are much bigger than that.

You can't even imagine it.

I was the victim of a xenophobic and racist comment.

But none of that started yesterday.

“Weeks ago they began to criminalize my dances.

Dances that are not mine.

“They are from Ronaldinho, Neymar, [Lucas] Paquetá, [Antoine] Griezmann, Joao Félix, Matheus Cunha… they are from Brazilian funk and samba artists, reggaeton singers and black Americans.

“Those are dances to celebrate the cultural diversity of the world.

Accept it, respect it.

I will not stop.

Other players like his compatriot Gabriel Jesús had already raised the issue of insulting Vinicius.

The Arsenal striker paid tribute to his Brazil teammate by celebrating Vinicius when he scored against Brentford 10 days ago.

World soccer's governing body, FIFA, did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino was at Tuesday's match at the Parc des Princes.
