Estimated at 40,000 pounds, the handwritten text of the song, a phenomenal success of the British singer, is the most prestigious piece of a sale orchestrated by Omega Auctions.

The text of

Starman

, a 1972 tube by David Bowie, written by the artist's hand, sold at auction on Tuesday for the sum of 203,500 pounds (nearly 227,000 euros), according to the company Omega Auctions, sales specialist related to the world of music.

The song, included in the British singer's phenomenal hit album

Ziggy Stardust

, evokes

"Starman who waits in the sky"

and wishes to meet humans.

The text sold on Tuesday, initially priced at 40,000 pounds (about 44,600 euros), is written in blue ink on a small-squared A4 sheet.

We see the changes made by Bowie as well as spelling mistakes corrected by the singer.

The document was exhibited during a retrospective at the Victoria & Albert Museum dedicated in 2013 to the singer, who died in January 2016 at the age of 69.

The buyer is a private collector whose identity has not been revealed.

The handwritten text was part of a larger sale called "David Bowie and Glam Rock", including posters and vinyl records.
