Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Wednesday (September 28th) condemned the “
rioters
” and deemed “
the chaos unacceptable
”, against the backdrop of the demonstrations triggered after the death of a young woman arrested by the morality police.

Those who took part in the riots must be dealt with firmly as the people want
,” he said in an interview on state television.
"
The enemy has targeted national unity and wants to pit people against each other
," he added, accusing the United States, the Islamic Republic's sworn enemy, of stoking the dispute.
He acknowledged that the death of Mahsa Amini had caused "
pain and grief
" among Iranians and promised that the authorities would "
soon
" submit a final report on his death.

Demonstrations have taken place every evening since September 16, the date of the death in hospital of Mahsa Amini, 22.
She had been arrested three days earlier by the morality police for breaking the strict dress code for women in the Islamic Republic of Iran, who must cover their hair in public.

According to a latest report given Tuesday by the Fars agency, "
about 60 people have been killed
" since the start of the protests.
Authorities reported 10 law enforcement deaths but it was unclear if these were among the 60 dead.
The authorities also reported the arrest of more than 1,200 demonstrators since September 16.
