There are already a number of books about the tenure of former US President Donald Trump.

Now Maggie Haberman, a reporter for the New York Times, has expanded the list once again with her work »Confidence Man«.

In several episodes, the journalist reports on incidents in which Trump is said to have attracted attention with racist remarks.

Rolling Stone quoted from the book.

A scene takes place in the White House in January 2017.

According to the reports, Trump had only recently been inaugurated.

At a reception where appetizers were also to be served, there was a mix-up that could be described as revealing.

Leading representatives of Congress were invited, including the influential Democrats Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.

The top politicians appeared accompanied by senior congress officials of various ethnic origins.

Trump mistook these employees for waiters, the book says.

"Why don't you get the food?" Haberman quoted Trump as saying.

The mistake was pointed out to him by then White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.

He then went in search of the actual service personnel.

Trump's comment to employees is therefore only evidence of Trump's everyday racism.

Elsewhere, Haberman describes an incident that is also said to have occurred on the day of the reception described.

Black "friends" as an argument against accusations of racism

Trump claimed that he only received fewer votes than opponent Hilary Clinton because of the votes of the "illegals" in the previous election.

The Democrat received almost three million votes more than Trump.

Due to the US electoral system, the so-called popular vote is not decisive for the final result, the president is determined by electors.

After an "awkward silence," Pelosi responded to Trump's comment, the descriptions continue: "I don't think so, Mr. President."

According to Rolling Stone, another example described by Haberman focuses on Kara Young.

The model, who has a black mother and white father, and Trump dated for about two years.

Shortly after meeting his mistress' parents, Trump is said to have joked that Young inherited her beauty from her mother and her intelligence "from her white-side father."

Trump therefore laughed at his own joke.

But not Young.

According to the book, she also expressed her displeasure with the statement.

Through Young, Trump made contact with black celebrities such as Sean Combs and Russell Simmons.

He later cited these "friends" to defend himself against accusations of racism.
