The Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Engineer Ayham Hamed, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the molasses industry in As-Suwayda accounts for about 14 percent of the total production of the grape crop in the governorate, and the initial production estimates for this season are about 1,520 tons, indicating that the manufacture of grape molasses is one of the methods of marketing the crop. It is spread in the villages and towns of Arman, Qanawat, Sahwat al-Khidr, Miamas, Kufr, Habran and Mardak.
For his part, Eng. Nayef Sneeh, owner of a molasses-processing mill, said: The high costs of molasses production requirements, especially diesel fuel, led to an increase in its prices and a decline in the amount of sales, with the price per pound ranging between 28 and 30,000 pounds, calling for support for the marketing process in the internal and external markets, which Contributes to supporting producers and ensuring the continuity of the production process.
According to Rabie Al-Shahf, the owner of a mill, the normal production capacity of his mill exceeds 37 cans per day, and has decreased during the current season to less than 30 plates, as a result of the reluctance of some farmers to manufacture molasses due to the high production cost, especially afternoon wages, indicating the need to increase allocations Industrial diesel for the specified mills at 100 liters per ton and to facilitate the process of obtaining it.
The molasses industry is one of the traditional industries inherited from the ancestors in As-Suwayda Governorate, and it is still continuing after the creation of many of its own contemporary industries.
