President Yitzhak Herzog condemned this evening (Wednesday) the attack by a Likud activist on the demonstrators against opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu. According to him, "We are in pre-election days in Israel - I am disturbed and worried, the violent incidents in the last few days and weeks keep me awake.

" "Violence is increasing and rising

Verbal violence - accusations of treason, comparisons to Nazis, threats and curses, in the public sphere and on social networks.

Verbal violence never stays that way," said Herzog at a forgiveness event at the President's residence. "Unfortunately, we see that hateful words turn into physical violence.

For punches, for assaults, for spilled blood."

The president called for avoiding confrontations or violent reactions on social media.

"It's impossible not to fear with anxiety: What's the next step? Knives? Gunshots? We'll be hurt, God forbid? After all, we've already been in this movie, and this time we mustn't hold back and keep quiet," he explained.

"Before the next hateful post, before a hateful tweet or talkback, before you confront, attack and hit, stop - don't come later with the requests for forgiveness and apologies, stop now before it's too late."

Herzog turned to the leaders, and called on them to try to calm the spirits.

"Speak a moderate and responsible voice, don't let the extremist and violent voices lead us into the abyss of hatred. We must not see as an enemy those who think differently from us."

The president also said that "Of course, disputes have an important place within us, provided that they are held respectfully. Let's see that there is a way to reach important decisions, without breaking up the house. Let's remember that we have a country to live in together even the day after the elections. We are all here together, and we are not going anywhere Place".

At the end of the week, the Likud party suspended the membership in the party of the activist Rami Ben Yehuda, following the attack on demonstrators at the Hamed interchange.

Ben Yehuda is one of Netanyahu's biggest supporters, and one of the most notorious and violent of them.

He was one of the leaders of the demonstrations outside the homes of Yamina and New Hope people, including harassing family members, and expressed harsh words against the members of the change government from the right-wing parties.

Ben Yehuda was employed in the Likud campaign for a fee and following the attack he was suspended until the circumstances are clarified.

The person who was attacked is Rami Matan, a regular participant in anti-Netanyahu protests in recent years and considered a hero of the Yom Kippur War when he fought and commanded the battle for the Chinese farm.

According to the protesters, this is the fifth attack in the last three weeks.

"The poison machine incites and the loyal supporters go out looking for the blood of protesters," it said.
