The Turkish Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned a statement by Bundestag Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki.
Now consequences follow.
Berlin/Ankara – The Turkish government is outraged by an “animal comparison” made by Bundestag Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki: At an election campaign event in Hildesheim, Kubicki criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his refugee policy – and according to media reports, called him a “small Sewer rat".
FDP Vice Kubicki accused the Turkish government of intentionally triggering the next crisis.
He therefore made demands on the traffic light government: They should not “simply open their arms” again if a possible new refugee crisis should begin.
Consequences follow this statement.

The government in Turkey summoned the German ambassador in Ankara on Tuesday (September 27).
"We condemn the insulting statements in the strongest possible terms," said Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Tanju Bilgiç in a statement from the Turkish foreign ministry.
According to Bilgiç, these statements shed light on Kubicki's political and moral level and his banality.
"These unacceptable statements made by Kubicki are inappropriate for his position as Vice-President of the Bundestag and are devoid of any political morality and responsibility."

When asked by the
German Press Agency
, Kubicki admitted the accusation on Tuesday: "In a side note during an election campaign in Lower Saxony, I called Mr. Erdogan a small sewer rat." However, he defended his statements.
A "little sewer rat" is a "small, cute, yet clever and devious creature", which is why she also appears as a protagonist in children's stories - for example "Kalle sewer rat" or "Ratatouille".
Kubicki further confirmed that he made the statement as part of a statement on the refugee policy of the Turkish President, who struck a deal with the EU that would benefit Turkey to reduce the number of refugees.
