A Lebanese delegation that included mayors, businessmen and civil activists from Tripoli and Akkar visited today Tartous Governorate, to thank those concerned for the great efforts made to rescue those on board the Lebanese boat, to provide medical services to them, and to retrieve the bodies of the victims.

Tartous Governor Abdel Halim Awad Khalil stressed during the meeting the attention and follow-up by the leadership, saying: “The governorate was an integrated beehive,” considering that this work is a duty and a moral and humanitarian work.

In turn, the Secretary of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party branch in Tartous, Muhammad Hussein, pointed out the depth of relations between the Syrian and Lebanese peoples.

In statements to reporters, a number of members of the delegation expressed their thanks and gratitude to the Syrian leadership and people. Omar Al-Dinawi, director of the Buffalo Valley Medical Center, explained that the delegation visited the General Authority of Al-Basel Hospital, and the governorate building, with the aim of thanking the medical staff and those concerned with the governorate, and the people of Tartous and Arwad Island for their efforts. Of great and colossal efforts, to save those on board the Lebanese boat, and to provide them with medical care, considering that this stems from high morals, authentic Arabism, and values ​​that the Syrian people were raised on.

While the businessman Asaad Jamal considered that Syria is the second country for the Lebanese, expressing his thanks to the Syrian leadership, the medical staff, the local community, and the people of Tartous, for the care and great interest in saving those on the Lebanese boat.

It is noteworthy that the number of victims of the Lebanese boat that sank off the coast of Tartous Governorate has reached 100, and all survivors have been discharged from the hospital, after their health condition improved.

According to survivors' statements, the boat set off from the Minieh area in Tripoli, northern Lebanon, since last Tuesday, with the intention of migrating to Cyprus, and carrying people of several nationalities.
