It's a kick-off full of emotions that is announced this Thursday evening at the Les Variétés cinema in Melun for the inauguration of Clap Melun, the new film club.

On the program: the film “Josephine Baker, a French destiny”, written by the essayist Laurent Kupferman and directed by Dominique Eloudy.

The screening will be followed by a debate with Brian Bouillon-Baker, one of the twelve children adopted by this exceptional woman who entered the Panthéon in November 2021, and in the presence of Laurent Kupferman, the originator of the Osez Joséphine petition (more than 40 000 signatures) in favor of its pantheonization.

An exceptional line-up for an evening that promises to be really interesting.

“We live in a somewhat troubled period, of withdrawal... This film club is an excellent initiative.

Openness, exchange, culture, it's like my mother's ideas!

“enthuses Brian Bouillon-Baker, who lives in Paris and … in Dammarie-les-Lys with his partner.

“I went to the Variétés several times.

Their programming suits me better than that of the Cartonnerie... If Clap Melun allows people to find themselves in front of a film and to exchange..." Aged 65, he will sign his book "Joséphine Baker l'universelle" published in November 2021 (Editions du Rocher).

Laurent Kupferman also salutes the birth of Clap Melun.

“Culture is the universal language.

You don't have to be rich or poor.

It's open to everyone!

I live near Fontainebleau and I learned to appreciate Melun!”

Melun September 27, 2022Passionate and creative, Jean-Pierre Carrel chairs the Clap Melun association and plans an interesting program.

Something to delight the film club team chaired by Jean-Pierre Carrel, a Parisian lawyer who came to go green by settling in Melun in 2020 after confinement.

Passionate and creative, this man who had set up a small theater in Toulouse in the past took part in the launch meeting of the film club at the end of February 2022. Then elected president of the association, he does not count his time and his energy to carry the project.

“The idea is to make cinematic alchemy accessible.

We will invite producers, directors, screenwriters”, he announces, ready to open his address book.

In November, the team is planning the screening of the documentary “Rendre la justice” by Robert Salis, who will be invited.

“We will also have philosophical, societal and of course cinema themes!

According to him, “the public demand exists.

More than 800 people came for the launch of the cultural season in Melun”.

At the Variétés, municipal cinema, films classified as Art and Essays represent 50% of the program and 40% of admissions.

For Clap Melun, the city makes the site and its employees available one Thursday a month.

Elected in charge of cultural associations, Odile Razé is thrilled: “Creating a film club was a gamble.

We are 25 at the moment, including new Melunais like Jean-Pierre.

It reminds me of Les Copains du Coin where many came from elsewhere to stimulate a dynamic.

We hope that the evening will swell the ranks of Clap Melun to define a concerted program!
