Because of the initial suspicion of violating the party law and infidelity, the Berlin public prosecutor's office searched the federal office of the AfD and other rooms.
The public prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday that there were two preliminary investigations against the former chairman Jörg Meuthen and against the former federal treasurer Klaus-Günther Fohrmann.
According to the public prosecutor, the accused are responsible for the AfD's accounts for the years 2016, 2017 and 2018.
These reports contained "allegedly incorrect information regarding party donations".
The public prosecutor found documents and data carriers that are to be evaluated in the course of the ongoing investigation.
Rooms at seven locations in Berlin, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia were searched.
Numerous police officers from Berlin and other federal states as well as three public prosecutors were involved.
