The Schongau volunteer fire department had three reasons to celebrate: two new vehicles and the general renovation of large parts of the fire station were proudly presented to the 140 invited guests.

Schongau

– It was a feat of strength, but the effort was worth it: After three years, the fire brigade building in Schongau shines in new splendor – and makes the important work of the Florian disciples easier in many areas.

In two construction phases, the changing rooms, the toilets, the lecture hall and the parlor were renovated and rebuilt.

In addition, an extension for a modern laundry room and a workshop for breathing apparatus were built behind the vehicle hall.

“We used to just put the respirators in a trough and let them dry.

Of course, that's no longer possible today," said Commander Werner Berchtold, who gave a tour of the new premises - with a lot of interesting information and a few funny anecdotes.

Thanks to the modern washing machines and a dryer, the Schongau fire brigade is also a popular point of contact for other fire brigades, who can professionally clean their equipment there.

The centerpiece is an oasis of well-being

And for the Schongau building yard and the elementary school: “Whoever is there just starts the machines.

It's so easy, I can do it too," said Berchtold, laughing.

Next door there is now an additional room for sewing and repair work, and the same workshop for breathing apparatus.

The heart of the ground floor is the parlour, which is now an oasis of well-being.

Larger than before and equipped with a new kitchenette, it offers the Florian's disciples the opportunity to get together comfortably after an assignment.

"That's important," emphasized the commander.

The upper floor is now barrier-free with an elevator.

"Even if I didn't understand why we had to install an emergency call button," said Berchtold, shaking his head.

Because in an emergency, who will be called?

That's right: the fire department.

Accessibility is particularly important in the case of the fire station, since the new classroom on the upper floor also serves as a polling station.

Equipped with modern technology, all training courses can now be held there professionally.

"Of course, other clubs or institutions are welcome to use this space," the commander generously offered - including to the city councilors present.

Next door there is a small meeting room, also with a kitchenette.

Replacement for 36 year old vehicle

If the firefighters are trained enough to be able to drive on missions, this will also be the case in two new vehicles in the future: the new HLF 20 is a replacement for a 36-year-old emergency fire engine, and the new personnel carrier replaces the old VW -Bus off.

Both vehicles and the fire station were blessed by deacon Hans Steinhilber and Peiting's pastor and emergency pastor Dirk Wollenweber: "Everything starts here, the training, the operations.

And I hope you always come back here safely.”

Of course, that was what all the keynote speakers wanted on this festive evening, which also had a nice side effect: "When we planned this festive evening and the open day, we quickly realized that we needed additional help," said fire brigade director Daniel Mahl.

And so he asked the Schongau town band and the Schloßbergler traditional costume association, who both agreed immediately, because they too can always rely on the fire brigade.

A nice Schongau togetherness.

Mahl also thanked the city of Schongau several times, which "always has an open ear for our concerns and always decides unanimously in our favour".

In times of great financial challenges, this is not a matter of course - especially not with such large projects.

Let's hope that the second ear of the city of Schongau is also open to the concerns of the other Schongau associations and institutions.
