The activities of the fourteenth scientific conference of the Damascus Medical Syndicate started today under the title “Scientific Medical Research, Necessity and Prospects,” with the participation of a group of professors and doctors, in the amphitheater of Al-Assad University Hospital in Damascus.
The conference includes about 60 lectures on the developments in medical sciences, and its topics focus on the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases, pediatrics, thoracic medicine and surgery, digestive diseases, endocrinology and diabetes, neuro-ophthalmic diseases, developments in male infertility, cardiac ischemia, interventional vascular surgery, and cerebrovascular diseases. In systemic diseases, and the art of anesthesia in poisonings.
In a speech during the opening between the Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghubash, that the ministry seeks to provide support for everything that contributes to the development and advancement of the medical profession, and to work to raise the practical and scientific level of doctors, and to be familiar with the latest developments in medical sciences to support ways of continuing medical education as one of the basic ingredients to enhance the professional performance of doctors in their various specialties. Which leads to the advancement of the health of society and individuals.
Dr. Ghobash pointed out that the number of services provided during the first half of this year reached nearly 10 and a half million services, despite the unilateral coercive sanctions imposed on the Syrian people.
The head of the Damascus Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Imad Saadeh, drew attention to the importance of the conference as it presents the latest developments in clinical and research medical sciences, pointing out that the Syndicate seeks to present new topics and modern treatments and transfer them to specialist doctors and residents.
In a statement to SANA, the director of the Red Crescent Hospital, Dr. Michael Salloum, explained that the chest diseases focus includes the most important researches related to thoracic surgery and internal thoracic diseases, such as recalcitrant asthma, immunotherapy for asthma, modern treatments with oxygen, chest tumors, and laparoscopic surgery and its role in detecting tumors, stressing the importance of the conference in terms of scientific education. Dr. Salwa Al-Abdullah, President of the Syrian Association to Combat Osteoporosis, explained that her lecture includes an approach, management and causes of osteoporosis and its developments in the world, noting that the incidence of the disease globally is a woman among 3 women and a man among 5 men after the age of fifty.
On the sidelines of the opening, a number of graduate students and resident doctors in the hospitals of the Ministries of Higher Education and Health and Military Medical Services, who published a number of scientific researches in refereed medical journals, were honored.
And a postgraduate student in plastic surgery from Al-Mowasat University Hospital, Dr. Amjad Al-Sultani, indicated that the focus will be on 5 basic researches on burns because they are a public health problem and on protocols for managing patients during the Corona pandemic, in addition to rare clinical cases that have been documented in hospitals.
It is noteworthy that the conference will continue until the 30th of this month, accompanied by a specialized medical exhibition for the latest medical equipment and pharmaceutical industries.
