The symbolism behind the hypnotic line of eyeliner in the cross of the Dior show

For the parade tribute to Catherine de Medici, Tuesday at the Tuileries, Peter Philips, creative director of Dior makeup, signed a hypnotic look inspired by a selfie of a model on Instagram.

This Tuesday, September 27 was the Dior spring-summer 2023 show. Maria Grazia Chiuri unveiled a collection inspired by Catherine de Medici.

For beauty, Peter Philips, creative and image director for Dior make-up, once again proved that the black liner line could be reinvented.

Season after season, it is indeed a signature makeup detail of the house on avenue Montaigne and its artistic director.

The make-up artist signs here a magnetic gaze whose singularity lies in a cross in the inner corner of the eye.

A "symbolic" cross, as the makeup artist told British magazine

Vogue

.

"In the past, artisans used to mark their stones with crosses, but it's also a very practical way to draw lines of liner on the eyes."

The other reason given by Peter Philips is much less historical since it was a photo posted by a model on Instagram that inspired him.

Maria Grazia Chiuri would have shown a photo of Stella Lucia, a model that she also paraded on the catwalk on Tuesday.

On the photo posted in June, we see the young woman sitting on her bed, two long duvets on her shoulders and her eyes adorned with this famous crossed liner.

A taste of the Dior beauty look, since even the hairstyle was taken up on the show.
