The M+ Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District opened on November 12 last year. Its LED curtain wall has become one of the unique views on both sides of the Victoria Harbour. However, the curtain wall failed within a year of operation.
The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority said tonight (28th) that about 560 lamps in the LED curtain wall of the M+ Museum could not be lit due to a sudden voltage drop earlier this month.
The moving video that was supposed to be playing, "Finding the Lost Blood" by Indian artist Nalini Malani, has been suspended.
West Kowloon Cultural District Authority: Aims to resume partial operations within weeks
A spokesman for the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority announced that there are more than 5,600 LED light tubes on the curtain wall of the M+ Museum, but 10% (about 560) of them have been unable to light up since the beginning of September due to a sudden voltage drop.
The Authority has contacted the relevant contractor to resolve the problem and is currently replacing the faulty LED light tubes, with the goal of restoring at least part of the curtain wall operation within a few weeks.
Will discuss the possibility of rebroadcasting "Finding Gone Blood"
The spokesman also pointed out that after the completion of the maintenance works, M+ will discuss whether the "Searching for the Lost Blood" created by the moving video artist Nalini Marani can be exhibited on the curtain wall, depending on the future program direction of the museum.
The spokesman added that the purpose of the M+ curtain wall is to broadcast moving images and add color to the urban evening landscape, so as to strengthen the connection between M+ and a corner of the city.
Looking through the information, the M+ curtain wall area is 65x110 meters. The above-mentioned Indian artist Nalini Malani created "Searching for the Lost Blood". The exhibition period was originally scheduled for three months. The question was forced to abort.
