The Medical and Health Bureau announced today (28th) that in the past week up to 11:59 p.m. on the 25th of this month, the Department of Health has received 25 reports of abnormal incidents involving people who have been vaccinated against the new crown vaccine, two of which involved suspected myocarditis or Pericarditis, a 9-year-old boy and a 15-year-old man, had chest pain after receiving the Xinxing vaccine and Fubitai vaccine respectively; another two children under the age of three had facial muscle weakness after receiving Sinovac.
Among them, there were no deaths reported by the HA involving persons who had been vaccinated within 14 days before their death and potentially related to vaccination.

The authorities pointed out that as of 8 p.m. on September 25, Hong Kong citizens had received a total of about 19.34 million doses of the new crown vaccine, and about 6.86 million had received at least one dose of the vaccine, including 94.8% of the population aged 12 or above.
A total of 7,945 abnormal incident reports were received by the DH, accounting for 0.04% of the total vaccination dose.
Regarding the deaths involving vaccinated persons, including 120 cases involving vaccinated persons who had been vaccinated within 14 days before their death, accounting for 0.0006% of the total dose of vaccination, no deaths were shown to be related to vaccination.
11 deaths pending further information for assessment
The Expert Committee on the Evaluation of Clinical Events of New Crown Vaccines has concluded that 97 deaths have no causal relationship with vaccination, and one case has not been established to have a causal relationship with vaccination. It is initially believed that 11 cases are not related to vaccination, and the remaining 11 cases are still pending. More information is available for evaluation, and the expert committee believes that no unusual phenomena have been found so far.

The authorities pointed out that two reports of suspected myocarditis or pericarditis involved a nine-year-old boy and a 15-year-old man, who developed chest pains within two days after receiving the Sinovac vaccine and Fubitai vaccine respectively and are in stable condition.
In addition, the Department of Health has received two cases of facial muscle weakness after vaccination with Sinovac vaccine, namely a two-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl, who are in stable condition.
According to the HA, from August 29 to September 25, the overall death case rate was 48.3 per 100,000, while the average death rate for the same period from 2018 to 2020 was 42 per 100,000 .
Among them, the death rate of acute stroke or acute myocardial infarction was 2.2 per 100,000 people, while the average rate of similar deaths in the same period from 2018 to 2020 was 2.6 per 100,000 people.
In addition, the miscarriage rate was 12.6 per 100,000, compared with the average rate of 20.0 per 100,000 for the same period from 2018 to 2020.
Based on a statistical analysis of the above figures, there is no evidence that vaccination increases the risk of death or miscarriage among those who receive it.
