The "England and Wales Law Year Opening Ceremony 2022" will be held in London from 2 to 3 October and will also be attended by Chairman of the Law Society of Hong Kong, Mr Chan Chak Ming.
Chen Zeming issued a statement today (28th) explaining the purpose of participating in this event.
Chen Zeming said that Hong Kong is the only common law jurisdiction in China and the only true bilingual common law system in the world.
The Central Government also fully supports Hong Kong in maintaining its common law system as one of its irreplaceable advantages to expand and promote exchanges between Hong Kong and the world.
It is therefore vital that the Law Society, as a professional body representing lawyers, network with colleagues from other common law jurisdictions who will be attending the event.
Chen Zeming pointed out that during the foreign visit, he will explain to the international legal community Hong Kong's judicial independence and the stability of the rule of law.
