The cycle paths on Zeppelinstraße are becoming significantly wider.
The city council decided that.
There is still criticism because 80 parking spaces are to be eliminated.
Munich – The city is driving the traffic turnaround.
The mobility committee decided on Wednesday to eliminate 80 parking spaces in Zeppelinstrasse.
Bike lanes should be widened for this.
The opposition has criticized the project.
Zeppelinstrasse in Munich: Cycle lanes are widened to 4.50 metres, roadways are shortened to 3.50 metres
It is planned to set up a two-way cycle path with a width of 4.50 meters on Zeppelinstraße between Rosenheimer Straße and Kreuzplätzchen for around two million euros.
For drivers, 3.50 meters remain on Zeppelinstrasse.
In addition, the cycle path running west of the trees will be added to the footpath along the Isar.
30 bicycle parking spaces are also to be created at the junctions with Schwarzstrasse and Kreuzplätzchen.
"Pedestrians also benefit directly from this, since sidewalks no longer have to be used as parking spaces," says City Councilor Christian Smolka (Greens).
"We are creating safe and wide cycle paths on one of Munich's most popular cycle routes along the Isar," says SPD City Councilor Andreas Schuster.
"I am particularly pleased that the protective elements that we are currently testing at several locations in Munich have already been considered," says Gudrun Lux (Greens).
The elements prevent the cycle path from being blocked by parked cars.
Zeppelinstraße in Munich: FDP criticizes that no compensation is being created for residents
The opposition did not want to join in the celebrations.
The fact that 80 of the 130 parking spaces on the western edge of the road are now to be omitted causes criticism.
FDP City Councilor Fritz Roth praised the fact that a bottleneck for cyclists would be eliminated.
But it would also be sensible to create a balance for residents who depend on cars.
“We wanted the mobility department to talk to Gasteig and Motorama about using the spaces there for residents.
That would indeed be a model for a neighborhood garage.” The city council did not go along with that.
The mobility department had already pointed out that in the "Nördliche Au" license area on Lilienstraße, further parking spaces should be designated all day for residents.
