Not everyone understands the Franconian dialect.

Anna Neubauer can remedy that.

The young woman from Fürth shares corresponding reels on Instagram.

Fürth - Fei, gell and a weng.

Anyone who lives in Franconia knows these words well enough.

And for those who don't know her, there's Anna Neubauer.

The 25-year-old from Fürth “translates” German idioms into Franconian on Instagram – always with a wink.

Fränkische Reels on Instagram: Fürtherin shares dialect videos

The student has had great success with her channel @annather_story.

She is now followed by over 17,000 people.

But how do you get the idea for Franconian reels?

When reels (short videos) came up on Instagram, she just thought it was cool.

She wanted to make reels herself, after all she learned how to cut videos during her studies.

But: "At first I didn't know what I wanted to do about it," she says in an interview with

Merkur.de.

It's boring when everyone does the same thing.

"I wanted something new, I thought, what can I do, what makes people laugh?".

She is a person in a good mood anyway and that should also show on her channel.

The idea came up while I was on holiday: "Many people asked me about the rolling R while I was on vacation - at least outside of Franconia," Anna continues.

She thought: "That's actually a cool idea, you just do a Franken-Reel." The idea was born.

Dialect: Franconian reels on Instagram - "Sabralot, you were free in Dusel"

She was on Instagram before, but the breakthrough came with the Franken-Reels.

Her clips quickly had over 100,000 clicks, and the number of followers doubled in a short time.

The channel is currently followed by 17,300 people.

The Franconian woman's most successful reel has almost half a million clicks.

The viral clip dates from December 2021: "In Franconia, we don't say: Woaaah, you were really lucky.

In Franconia mer says: Sabralot, there you were free in Dusel".

Adabei, Muichdistl, speanzel - the Bavarian dialect is full of treasures.

Reels about the Franconian dialect: Anna records videos alone - and shares them with thousands

Why just the video went through the roof?

It is quite short what is probably important on Instagram.

Nobody would watch long videos anymore.

Everyone also knows the words “Dusel” or “Luck”.

Her facial expressions also went well with it, Anna estimates.

On average there is such a reel once a week, sometimes only every two weeks during the exam period, but then more often during the holidays.

The reels themselves are quick to cut, taking 5 to 10 minutes.

She records the video (the structure is always the same) alone with the help of a mobile phone tripod.

"When there are people in the room and I'm talking to myself, I find that kind of funny," says Anna, laughing.

After all, she often made a face, saying it was unusual when her boyfriend was sitting in the same room.

When she started her channel, looking at the phrases, she thought: "It will stop at some point." But now she is no longer afraid that she will run out of material.

"Followers send me terms," says the student.

There are also suggestions from people around her, for example from her grandmother.

In addition, there are some different words from village to village anyway.

Fränkin makes dialect reels on Instagram: "It's not a job for me, it's a hobby"

However, they did not implement all of the suggestions.

"Not all are suitable," says Anna.

For example, some words are boring or she doesn't know them herself.

Sometimes she has to think longer about "what's cool".

This part of the video - ie committing to a phrase - usually takes the longest on the reels.

The 25-year-old not only posts Franken-Reels on her channel.

Holiday pictures or motivational quotes can also be found there.

She cannot estimate how much time she takes for Instagram per day.

"It's not a job for me, it's a hobby."

But she doesn't believe that she spends more time on Instagram than others who look at photos or videos there, "because I don't look at so much of others, I prefer to produce."

Franconian dialect: Reels on Instagram - "My grandma is my biggest fan"

In the meantime, Anna even earns money with her channel thanks to cooperation.

But she couldn't live on that.

The Franconian studies and works part-time as a working student, doing social media for companies.

In addition, she has her own channel.

How should it continue in the future?

“I really like all three,” she says.

That's why she hasn't decided yet what she wants to do with it, whether she wants to be employed by a company or prefer to be self-employed.

The reactions from those around her were consistently positive, everyone thought it was funny.

In the meantime, the relatives are even being asked about it by others in the village or association.

The reels are particularly well received by her grandmother.

"My grandma is my biggest fan".

She got herself Instagram for her granddaughter's channel.

"She likes every story," laughs Anna in the interview.

Typically Franconian: wisdom and proverbs

My grandma is my biggest fan. She likes every story

Write in Franconian dialect?

“Somehow I don’t get it”

Her favorite Franconian word is "fei".

You can use that in every sentence, "that always works, everyone knows that" - at least in Franconia.

"Franconia is where the rabbits have Hoosn and the trousers have Hussn" is her favorite saying.

But she doesn't think much of writing in dialect - for example on Whatsapp.

“Somehow I don't get it at all,” she says.

It's difficult to write, difficult to read and "I'm overly correct when it comes to writing," she laughs - probably due to her studies.

After all, she did her bachelor's degree in technical journalism.

For someone who produces Franken-Reels, the question naturally arises: is it possible without the rolling R?

"It's actually not possible," she admits.

She tries every now and then, but her fellow students tell her every time: "High German doesn't sound high German either".

And Anna says: "I'll never manage that."

In Bavaria, Austria and Switzerland, SMS and WhatsApp messages are written in dialect.

The dialectologist Konstantin Niehaus explains the phenomenon.
