"Danger to life": The Schneider hospital team rescued all 17 children from the flames

The team of the heart surgery department at the Schneider Pediatric Center had to deal with a fire that broke out in the department last night.
The medical team was entrusted with the evacuation of all the children in the ward to the emergency complexes and the various wards, with some confined to their beds and some ventilated.

Nir Sinouani, an intensive care nurse and in charge of the shift on the night of the fire, said that they managed to move the 17 patients in less than two hours, with eight of them breathing, which makes the evacuation particularly complex.
Sinwani told and began about the moment when they realized that a fire had broken out," it started with a smell coming from the area of one of the rooms, mother woke up and said there was a strong smell of something burning. At that point we decided to call the fire department, the fire broke out and they were already with us. Many of the staff, Sinouani said, were almost captured on the spot, this according to him because the ward is divided into two parts, a normal ward and intensive care.
"The smoke was right between the two parts, and there was a stage where we couldn't reach each other and couldn't meet. We were locked in the intensive care unit and waited for evacuation," he says, "only after the fire department helped us did we reach all the patients, in fact the road was blocked and we were locked with them."
The brother continued and told about the conduct of the medical team in evacuating the sick children from the place.
"We divided the staff - we took all the patients out and the parents. We went back to the patients who were lying down, at this point there was a real risk because we couldn't leave the intensive care anywhere," he said, "everyone who could come to help - came. "Another team was taken down to the basement, which became the ward today, to receive the patients, another team stayed the whole time intensive care and teams arrived to help the mobile. We all arrived very quickly, and when the fire department told us they were controlling the incident we felt we were free for patients and a controlled evacuation."

Sinwani continued and shared his feelings from the event.
He said that a fire in the ward could have endangered the entire hospital, because the whole place is networked with oxygen.
"There was a sense of danger to life in the air, several nurses needed oxygen treatment after we finished transferring. The damage in the ward is great and it will take several weeks to months to restore full function," he said.
