The tribute comes from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken: "Time" magazine counts Annalena Baerbock among the 100 rising personalities in the world. Another German has also made it onto the list.

Together with Robert Habeck, she led the Greens to many successes, became a candidate for Chancellor - and is now Foreign Minister in the traffic light government: Annalena Baerbock has had a remarkable career.

Apparently, Time magazine agrees.

The paper publishes a list of the world's 100 rising personalities each year.

This year, two Germans are mentioned in the ranking - in addition to Baerbock, climate activist Luisa Neubauer is also one of the "upcoming stars".

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken wrote of the reasons for Baerbock's selection published on Wednesday: "When I think about it, what makes me optimistic in these times is to have a partner who so seamlessly blends principles and pragmatism." Despite global challenges - including the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine - the minister managed to bring the USA and Germany and all transatlantic allies closer together, Blinken said.

"She has never lost faith in the inherent strength of our democracies, based on our freedom, our respect for human rights and our unique ability to improve ourselves," the minister wrote about Baerbock.

»And she has a gift for attracting more partners to this vision and putting it into practice.«

»A strong voice of a generation of young Germans«

In the case of Neubauer, another climate activist provided the reason for the selection.

Vanessa Nakate from Uganda called Neubauer “one of the driving forces behind the creation of Fridays for Future in Germany”.

"As a talented organizer and stirring speaker, she has become a strong voice for a generation of young Germans who take a stand against inaction," Nakate continues.

The Time feature profiles 100 "rising stars" from all walks of life and countries, including musicians, entrepreneurs, activists and politicians.

“What connects these individuals is their extraordinary efforts to shape our world — and determine our future,” the magazine said.

The list is independent of the more well-known "Time" ranking of the 100 most influential people in the world - a list in which, for example, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared several times.
