Tegernsee – The Tegernsee Week will take place until Monday (October 3rd).

The opening ceremony took place in the baroque hall of the palace.

Visibly relieved that the opening concert of the Tegernsee Week could take place in the castle's baroque hall after a year's break, Mayor Johann Hagn welcomed the numerous visitors, including District Administrator Olaf von Löwis and his wife.

Hagn thanked the headmaster Werner Oberholzner for providing the ballroom in the Tegernsee Gymnasium.

The mayor of the city thanked the organizer Birgit Halmbacher-Höplinger and her team, who had worked tirelessly on the varied programme, which this year again offers the finest culture for a full twelve days up to and including October 3rd.

So the opening night was promising.

36 women and men with Max Hanft at the piano appeared on the big stage in festive attire.

Under the direction of Sebastian Schober, the Palestrina Motettenchor Tegernsee presented a “mixed” program in every respect.

He recalled the highlights of his 50-year choral history, which began in 1972 with his first public appearance in Tegernsee, and combined it with the wide range of his rich repertoire.

The world of classical music at Tegernsee would be unthinkable without Sebastian Schober, who has directed the internationally acclaimed Palestrina Motettenchor Tegernsee since 1999.

The cantor, choir director and conductor has a professional musical education that stands for musical diversity.

Fine mix on opening day

The doctor Josef Hampel from Tegernsee received thunderous applause, as the only founding member from 1972, who is still enthusiastically involved with the active members: "Singing is apparently the very best anti-aging", was how moderator Robert Götz evaluated the more than 50-year achievements of the co-founder.

Götz not only sang along himself, but also guided the visitors through the evening as an expert moderator.

From madrigals, yodels, the Mozart canon and opera choir, Stieler settings and works by Hugo Distler and Carl Orff, everything was on offer.

Music from five centuries, paired with 50 years of choir history - the Tegernsee mix on the opening day could not have been finer.

The highlight of the evening was certainly the world-famous prisoner's choir from Nabucco, which demanded the whole spectrum of the choir.

Rheinberger's songs based on texts by Karl Stieler such as "It shines on the lukewarm night of the moon" conveyed the courage to feel.

Officially, the more than two-hour program was to end with "Der boarische Himmi" by the unforgotten Rudi Rehle, which was followed by two encores.
