Chinese local authorities announced today the completion of the construction of an undersea tunnel in Dalian Bay in north China's Liaoning Province, which includes a six-lane undersea expressway.
According to Xinhua, the tunnel is the first of its kind in North China and consists of 18 tubes, each 180 meters long and weighing about 60,000 tons. The highway is 5.1 km long through the tunnel, with a designed speed of 60 km per hour.
Project manager Wang Dianwen said work on the Dalian Bay Tunnel was completed today and will open to traffic next year when a north-south express lane is added to ease traffic congestion in the port city of Dalian.
